MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian gas export monopoly Gazprom plans to cut up to 10 percent of the workforce in its Moscow headquarters as part of a cost cutting programme, Kommersant business daily reported on Friday quoting sources.

Kommersant quoted an industry source as saying Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller had already signed an order to lay off 10 percent of 5,770 head office staff.
Gazprom, which employs about half a million people, reported its total personnel costs at 249 billion roubles ($10.72 billion) in 2007 but head office costs grew faster than in the rest of the company.
Gazprom, the world’s largest gas producer, said last month its consolidated net profit in 2007 rose by over 9 percent to 695 billion roubles.
Gazprom was not immediately available for comment.
